  • Click Change

Step 3: Reset Browser settings

Changing Homepage is not enough to erase ZenSearch’s entries from the browser. To lead a successful extermination, you need to reset all browser settings, including browsing history, internet cookies, cached data, and disable all extensions.

IE 11

  • Enter Internet Options box
  • Under Browsing history, click Delete button
  • Check all options
  • Proceed with the Delete option

Google Chrome

  • Open Settings window
  • Click Show advanced settings link located at the bottom of the page
  • Scroll down to the end and select Reset browser settings
  • Confirm your decision by choosing Reset

Remember when I said “uninstallation leaves minimal residue behind”? Well, this is where the remnant hides. While you might feel comfortable by uninstalling the threat from your system, and removing its trail from the browser, you still need to eradicate its records from the Registry. This should be handled carefully since unwanted editing of this sensitive database can bring about disastrous results. It is therefore advised you backup your Registry before making the following changes.

  • Open Registry Editor. This can be done by typing regedit in the Run box (Windows + R keys)
  • Click Edit tab and select Find
  •  Ensure checkmarks against Keys, Values and Data
  • Type zensearch in the text field and choose Find Next
  • Edit the highlighted and change string to google.com
  • Press F3 to find next, and repeat the above step
